Hong Kong Art Week 2019: An Exclusive Insider’s Tour

In collaboration with Bespokcracy Travel, this 5-day art-filled and art expert-led journey helps you navigate Asia’s busiest and most exhilarating art week, the Hong Kong Art Week, which pivots around the marquee fair of Art Basel Hong Kong and its satellite fair, Art Central.

Lowering the velvet rope, we have curated a selection of access-only and insider-look activities which include a sneak peek at the West Kowloon Cultural District, talks by leading figures in the art and cultural scene and thoughtfully-curated walks and introductions by Benjamin Hampe, a highly-regarded personality in Southeast Asia’s art circle.

We now offer a 3D2N option of this tour for those who would like to focus on the art fairs and the various exhibitions at prominent galleries. This will include the same meticulously-curated tours and exclusive access under the full itinerary. We highly recommend signing up for the full 5D4N itinerary to enjoy a more complete experience of Hong Kong Art Week and at the same time, get a taste of other aspects of Hong Kong.

This exclusive one-off tour starts from US$2,998 (for the 3D2N option) and is only open to a limited number of guests.

Registration closes on 16 February 2019.

Key Highlights

Day by Day Highlights

Day 1 (March 26, 2019)

Arrive in Hong Kong and check into a boutique luxury hotel, specially selected for you. After freshening up, kick-off your private Art Week experience with a VIP preview of Art Central and galleries showcasing Southeast Asian works and artists; including participating Singapore galleries. Benjamin will lead you through the art spaces — the first of many to come.

Look forward to meeting a senior Art Central representative to get an overview of the fair and be among the first to find out what makes this 2019 edition an unmissable experience.

To cap off an exhilarating first day, enjoy a welcome dinner at a private kitchen with a renowned art figure, Carla Chan.

Day 2 (March 27, 2019)

Start the day with an exclusive series of gallery talks and tours within the H Queen’s and Pedder buildings before anyone else gets access to the shows. These may include galleries like David Zwirner and Gagosian. You might even get a rare tour and viewing of an artist’s works by the artist himself or herself.

Next, hop on a privately chartered tram — an iconic Hong Kong transportation mode — for a 2-hour jaunt and learn about the city’s history of trams.

The rest of the day will be spent at a private Art Basel Hong Kong (ABHK) VIP preview, where Benjamin will, once again, lead the group around the gallery spaces. You will have the opportunity to explore the fair on your own time and pace. Evening festivities include backdoor access to art parties and mingling with fellow art connoisseurs and gallery experts.

Day 3 (March 28, 2019)

Visit the Wong Chuk Hang galleries for an exclusive tour led by a local artist. The focus on Hong Kong artists will carry through the spaces we stop by, including but not limited to de Sarthe and Blindspot.

Lunch will take place at DineArt, a private kitchen within a gallery, with a menu specially crafted and created for you.

In the afternoon, pop by the Tai Kwun complex, a centre for heritage and arts. Embark on a tour of the space and a detour to Tai Kwun Contemporary — the contemporary art programming arm of the place. Meet a senior curator or team leader to learn more about the centre and the work they do over tea in the in-house Chinese restaurant. If time permits, a walking heritage tour of the island’s Central area will follow.

For those staying on for the 5D4N journey, enjoy a traditional dinner where a culinary expert will be on-hand to answer any questions you have about Cantonese cuisine.

Day 4 (March 29, 2019) – Optional

Be one of the first in the world to visit and tour M+, Hong Kong’s newly opened museum for visual culture. Meet with a senior curator or director to learn more about the cultural institution and its place in the art world.

The group will then make its way to the West Kowloon Cultural District for an exclusive behind-the-scenes access to venues yet to be opened to the public.

Come afternoon, we will enjoy a sneak preview and private tour of the newly minted Soho House (where members must work in creative industries or be connected somehow), with special attention paid to the art around the club.

At night, you may wish to attend the ABHK vernissage or opt for our farewell dinner and a show. The latter will feature a special performing arts experience that will be entirely unique from what we have in Singapore, at an equally outstanding location suited to the particular art form.

Day 5 (March 30, 2019) – Optional

Depending on your outbound flight time, you can opt to spend your morning visiting one or two non-profit art organisations, the missions of which are to encourage art appreciation and awareness in Hong Kong and Asia; and are aligned with National Gallery Singapore’s missions.

The visits will take on a more research and academic tone as there will be privately-arranged talks with these organisations’ representatives about topics of their choosing.

Once done, head to your hotel to checkout before returning home renewed with invaluable knowledge and artistic inspiration that will stay with you long after you leave.
