This journey outline is by no means fixed. As the traveller takes centre stage in our planning – from the type of lodging to daily activities – your journey will be crafted to suit you.
Meet on arrival at Changi International airport. Be welcomed by our English-speaking driver/representative who will transfer you to your hotel.
Start with a sumptuous satay dinner followed by a night visit to Gardens by the Bay, an award-winning horticultural destination with breath-taking waterfront views. At nightfall, the Marina Bay skyline emerges and the Supertree Grove with its iconic tree-like vertical gardens come alive in a spectacle of light and sound at the Garden Rhapsody Show. Take in the panoramic view of the city from the top of Marina Bay Sands’ Skypark Observation Deck perched 200 metres above the ground, offering a 360-degree view of the Singapore skyline that stretch as far as Indonesia’s Riau Islands. End your evening cruising the Singapore River on a bumboat, a traditional cargo-ferrying craft and enjoy the beauty of century-old historical bridges and buildings. Return to the hotel.
After breakfast, today’s excursion begins with a visit to Singapore first’s UNESCO World Heritage Site – the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Stroll through the National Orchid Garden which boasts a sprawling display of 60,000 orchid plants.
Proceed to Little India, a haven of Indian culture and ethnicity that embodies the energy and colour of the Indian community in Singapore. Let your senses come alive as you walk past shops along the five-foot way, offering a variety of exotic fruits, species, local vegetables, jasmine and orchid garlands.
Next, drive to the mouth of the Singapore River to the Merlion Park for a view of the iconic Merlion and Marina Bay. The Merlion, with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, is an imaginary creature that represents Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village.
Drive past the financial district to the historic Chinatown, an enclave full of rich cultural history. Visit Singapore’s oldest and most picturesque Hindu Temple, built right smack in the middle of Chinatown. Enjoy the iconic Singapore Sling cocktail at the Raffles Hotel Long Bar before exploring the city after dark. Return to the hotel
The Michelin Bib Gourmand has seen a number of Singapore street food vendors winning the coveted award, a testimony of the quality and value of the city’s dynamic food scene. On this tour, your ‘insider’ food explorer will take you through hidden alleys to some of Singapore’s Michelin Star ‘restaurants’. Come prepared with an appetite as you will be tasting food and snacks from 5–6 different stalls from two hawker centres.
You will not only enjoy the best bites but hear fascinating stories about the food and the people behind them. Noodle Story serves a combination of Singapore wanton noodle with Japanese ramen topped with tender cha-siu (barbeque pork) and crispy potato-wrapped prawn. Crispy Curry Puff serves up fan-shaped flaky deep-fried pastries filled with chicken or sardines. Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Noodles, the first hawker stall to win a Michelin star in Singapore, i an institution in itself. Sample the Char Kway Teow too. This dish of stir fried flat rice noodles with eggs and prawn is a perennial favourite. Save room for ice kachang, a colourful mountain of shaved ice with sweetened red beans, jelly cubes and creamed corn.
Start with a local breakfast of kaya (coconut jam) toast, soft-boiled eggs and strong kopi (coffee) before taking a riverside stroll at the Quays for a jaw-dropping panorama of towering skyscrapers and colonial buildings. Tour the Asian Civilisations Museum or keep walking to the National Museum of Singapore, the Peranakan Museum and the National Gallery Singapore. The Sri Mariamman Temple, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Thian Hock Keng Temple offer glimpses into everyday neighbourhood life.
In the evening, drive over to the Singapore Zoological Gardens where you can dive into the Night Safari, and meet with a cast of majestic and curious creatures under the tropical moonlight. Ride the trams through the park and take an atmospheric walk past tigers, leopards and swooping bats under the cover of darkness.
For a taste of 1950s Singapore, head to Changi to catch a bumboat (motorised sampan) to Pulau Ubin. Rent a bicycle and cycle the island’s peaceful, jungle-fringed roads, passing tin-shacked houses and quirky shrines. There’s even a mountain-bike park with trails for varying skill levels. Stop and take a walk along a mangrove boardwalk, where you can admire Singapore’s unique coastal biodiversity.
After exploring the sleepy island of Pulau Ubin, catch a bumboat back to Singapore. Wander the shops at Changi Village and sample some local delicacies like Wanton Mee and Nasi Lemak at the popular Changi Village Hawker Centre. Stop for an ice-cold beer at Little Island Brewing Co while you witness the beautiful sunset before heading back to the city centre.
Come evening, swap tranquil nostalgia for the neon-lit excesses of Geylang, a red-light district housing some of the best food in Singapore. Finally, end your night at a trendy rooftop bar, where you can enjoy commanding views of the Marina Bay Sands spectacular nightly light-and-laser show.
Little India will erase every preconceived notion of Singapore as a sterile, metropolis lacking depth and character. Weathered tailors stitch and sew by the side of the road, and the air is redolent with the fragrance of cumin and the pulsating rhythm of Bollywood soundtracks.
Take in the colours and sounds of the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple and buy a sari at Tekka Centre. Learn more about the area’s fascinating backstory at the Indian Heritage Centre. After your morning adventure at Little India, escape the afternoon heat in the air-conditioned comfort of Orchard Road, one of the world’s most famous shopping meccas.
Time to bid farewell to this beautiful city and head back home. Stop by Changi JEWEL by the airport before boarding for your flight.
